Amendment would test waters on ‘Fairness Doctrine’| Point of View.net
A conservative Republican senator is pushing for an up-or-down vote in the Senate this week on the Fairness Doctrine.
Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) says he is glad President Obama “finally confirmed” he does not want to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine. According to DeMint, the Fairness Doctrine is “dishonestly named” and “attacks the right of free speech on talk radio.”
Among those in the Senate who have announced their support for resurrecting the Fairness Doctrine are Democrats Dick Durbin (Illinois), Debbie Stabenow (Michigan), Charles Schumer (New York), Jeff Bingaman (New Mexico), Tom Harkin (Iowa), and Dianne Feinstein (California).
